Native American Historical Inquiry
Examination of historical sources leads to a better understanding of contemporary realities. One example of this is the controversy of the Red Skins football team. This name offended many natives because of the derogatory intention that it has been used as throughout history.
Someone with little historical information may question why this offended people. To understand another's opinion, you have to put yourself in another's shoes, both personally and historically. Has this person been emotionally affected in the past by racism? Or just have a thorough understanding of their ancestry to come to this conclusion.
We have been studying native American history pieces such as ''The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, etc.'' These stories provide an enlightened perspective of the pain and hardships of natives throughout history and the further struggles in present times.

In humanities, we wrote op-eds that were based on moral philosophy, however, we could choose any political issue we wanted. I chose gun control for my op-ed. I focused this piece on open carry and aspects to gun control that I thought were useful and other aspects that I thought could be improved or repealed. In the visual piece to the left, I intended to convey civilians carrying handguns while standing around a criminal to show how open carry can benefit areas where there's no authority present. The visual was done with acrylic paint that I also mixed with water to make lighter shades like skin color. I also added a quote by Benjamin Franklin that pertained to the liberty and security that firearms can provide.
